If you cant get ham hocks instead of pork hocks, you are going to end up with a smoky, musky soup tastes a bit like a barnyard that DEFINITELY needs to be balanced with some sweetness. An addition of fresh peas at the end would help a bit with that, but I still think that a little molassesbrown sugarhoney is needed to repair it not much of course, its still a savory dish, but if you can, USE HAM HOCKS or a leftover ham bone, instead. I understand that some add some spice to personal taste, but the fundamentals of this recipie were also way off. As noted by many reviewers, the liquid ratio is totally inappropriate.
